Last weekend was the Southern Utah Writing and Illustrating Workshop for SCBWI. It was headed up by Erin Shakespear. Writer’s Ann Dee Ellis and Ally Condie gave the keynote address about “Two Journeys to Publication”. It was nice to hear their stories and to meet Ally. I had met Ann Dee before.

A few people learned about the workshop in the St. George Newspaper and showed up the day of, to register.

Here is the great illustrator Ben Soward with Erin Shakespear and the youngest attendee. One of the funnest moments came during the question and answer panel. Erin’s baby fell and opened his mouth to cry. She swooped him up under her arm and as she bolted to the exit you could hear whaaa-uuuup.....whaaa-uuup......whaaa-uuup.....timed with each jogging step of Erin. The final wail came out in the hall.

After the workshop there was a book signing at Main Street Books. The owner had rounded up some of my older books which were great to sign for people.

I was able to sign with Ben Soward. He told stories of long lines of people waiting to get him to sign books. I told hims stories of one or two relatives waiting in line for me to sign their books.
